VIDEO: RecycOil - Colorado Innovation and Jobs Tour - Webisode 1
RecycOil is a small company based in Berthoud that collects old cooking grease and refines it into bio-diesel for cars and trucks. They aren't the only game in town, but what makes RecycOil unique are the systems they use to predict how much grease restaurants use and determine the optimal time to pick it up.
The number one job for Colorado's next governor will be to create jobs and grow our economy. No doubt about it. But we can't wait until election day to start repairing Colorado's economy.
One thing we know from working in the restaurant business is that the key to successful economic development is establishing the right brand. Seems to us that if we want to attract new companies and good-paying jobs, we need to aggressively market our state as the nation's center of innovation.
Meeting with small businesses like Big Agnes, who make top of the line sleeping bags, or Osprey, makers of premier camping packs, has us thinking of the ways to promote Colorado companies.
These companies could be anywhere, but they choose to be in Colorado. We think we can build a brand for the state if Colorado products had Imagined and designed in Colorado written on their packaging. Then, all the tourists that come to Colorado would become aware of all the innovative products we make. It promotes the product, our tourism industry, and it's a reminder that Colorado's not just a great place to visit, it's a great place to open an office.
We created an industry in Colorado when we launched Colorado's first brew pub. We think Colorado's next governor should know what it means to start a business and create jobs.
That's why we are traveling the state, meeting with businesses, economic development groups and education leaders to develop a plan for Colorado's economic prosperity. We're working to create a business environment so that more and more products will say "imagined and designed in Colorado."
Thanks,

John Hickenlooper
